Is a Glass Balustrade Expensive?

It is a common misconception that a glass balustrade is expensive. In this article we look at why glass balustrade need not break the bank and what you can do to save money on your balustrade. 

The most obvious thing to do to save money on your balustrade is to install it yourself. A large proportion of our customers are DIY enthusiasts and are comfortable installing a balustrade themselves. All of our systems are completely pre fabricated. By way of example, for our stainless steel posts, the post itself is completely pre fabricated. The base plate is already welded to the post, the clamps attached and the end cap included. All you need to do is lift the cover plate and it is four fixings through the base plate. It couldn’t be simpler! 

We have helpful installation videos and our technical team are on hand at any time to give you any advice that you may need. Calculating your glass sizes is very straightforward. We have software that can calculate the exact dimensions of the glass panels and videos on how to check that those dimensions are correct.

The majority of the cost any glass balustrade is in the glass itself. As a result, the more cost effective systems are those that use thinner glass. Our post systems use 10mm toughened glass as opposed to our frameless systems which use toughened laminate glass. Toughened laminate glass such as 17.5 toughened laminate and 21.5mm toughened laminate are more than double the cost of 10mm toughened. This can considerably increase the cost of your balustrade. 

Opting for stock items that we can ship on a next day basis, is usually noticeably cheaper than bespoke items that we need to manufacture. By way of example if you purchase a standard post that is 1100mm from bottom of base plate to top of handrail, it is noticeably cheaper than a privacy screen post.

Considering carefully which type of fixing you use can also save you a considerable amount of money on your installation. Our frameless channel systems are fully tested without using expensive expansion bolts. In most instances threaded bar and resin are sufficient to meet the required line load test.
